Air Lights Plasma Air Purifiers
What are Air Lights™ Air Purifiers?
Portable, low maintenance scientifically advanced air purifying
devices to improve air quality for you at your home, business or on the road.
Different sizes are available for your specific needs - from a small personal
unit to a whole house or office unit as well as commercial sizes. If you want
the advantage of being able to move the Air Purifier from one location to
another, then an Air Lights portable purifier is for you.
What does an Air Lights™ Air Purifier do?
It cleans the air — kills bacteria, viruses, mold and fungi.
Neutralizes toxic gases Destroys unpleasant odors. Removes harmful
particulates. The ultimate in clean air technology— it does more than
“filter”. Has UVC technology been tested? Yes. Westinghouse Electric, General
Electric, and Penn State University conducted laboratory tests on the
effectiveness of UVC light on micro-organisms. UVC light has also been used in
wastewater plants and commercial settings like hospitals and food processing
for over 50 years.
How does the Air Lights™ Air Purifier work?
The Air Purifiers use an advanced ultraviolet method of air
purification—a 4-stage combination of methods for cleansing, purifying and
removing air impurities………including use of the same, radiant purifying process
that has been used by hospitals and other industries for many years. Germs are
constantly invading our homes via people sneezing, coughing, pets scratching
and other lifestyle influences. Technology now gives us the opportunity to
cleanse the air within our homes in a very cost effective manner.
What are the 4 stages of the process?
The 4-stage process: Kills bacteria, viruses and mold, breaks down
organic contaminants and neutralizes unhealthy gases the moment the indoor air
is drawn into the Air Lights™ air purification chamber. Removes dust and smoke
from the drawn-in air by electrically charging them and continually breaking
these particulates down with specially designed ultraviolet light. Energizes
the air, "exciting" it into an active state known in scientific circles as a
"Purifying Plasma." This Purifying Plasma destroys bacteria, viruses and mold,
breaks down unhealthy fumes, and neutralizes offensive odors. Sends this
highly "excited," very pure air throughout an indoor environment, where it
further seeks out and destroys contaminants and odors. Unlike simple filtering
devices, which effect only the air drawn into them, this last stage enables
Air Lights™ Air Purifiers to send out excited, purified air that searches for
contaminants and odor no matter where they might try to "hide."
Is plasma more effective than UVC light alone?
The process combining photochemistry and photoplasma has been reported
to be extremely potent in removing contaminants from the air and surfaces.
There is evidence that surfaces can be decontaminated 100 - 2000 times faster
than with other purifying methods. As an example and for comparative purposes,
it has been estimated that removing biological contaminants from surfaces by
corona discharge created ozone may take 10 hours. Ultraviolet light in the
highly bactericidal range of 253.7 nanometers would take 1 hour for this same
result. Corona discharge ozone and ultraviolet light combined would achieve
the same result in 1.5 minutes. However, the use of a broader and more
energetic ultraviolet bandwidth combined with the resulting plasma would clean
the same surface in 20 seconds.
Is UV light harmful to people?
Prolonged, direct exposure to the light waves from a UVC bulb is harmful
to all living organisms, including people. However, the air purifiers have
been designed with safety in mind. Do not look directly at the UV bulb.
What is the life of the UV lamp?
After approximately 1 year of continuous use (2-3 years of intermittent
use) the UV lamp will lose its power and need to be replaced.
Can the Air Lights be run 24 hours a day?
Air LIghts Air PUrifiers are designed to be run continuously 24 hours a
day with no need to monitor them. If you prefer, you can also operate the unit
part time.
Where should I put the Air Purifier?
Air Lights™ Air Purifiers will be effective in most any location.
Optimum results can be achieved if you:
• Place the unit in the center of the indoor air environment with
maximum open space.
• Place the unit as high as possible
• Do not place the unit on a metal surface.
• Place the unit where the air flow in or out will not be blocked.
• Place the unit near an air duct or fan for maximum circulation.
• Place the unit in a heavy traffic or odorous area, i.e., smoking room,
kitchen, near litter box, etc.
• Do not place the unit directly in the face of a person or pet.
Since the Air Lights™ is portable it can be used for specific small
areas when needed. For example, place in a walk-in closet, bathroom, child's
room or on a bed while changing the sheets and then return the purifier to the
central location.
How do I determine which model is best for my indoor environment?
The area covered by each model is listed in the product descriptions.
These specifications assume an area with 8 foot ceilings and are general
estimates. If you have a high level of contaminants (pets, smoke etc) or high
vaulted ceilings, a larger unit may be warranted. Air Lights would be happy to
talk to you to make sure you get the best model for your situation.
Where are these types of Air Purifiers being used?
UV plasma air purifiers are being used in homes and businesses all over
the world. Click here for a partial list of customers using products produced
by the manufacturers of Air Lights Air Purifiers.
Is the Air Lights™ Air Purifier expensive to operate?
Not at all. Air Lights™ air purification products are smaller, lighter,
more compact and significantly quieter than the typical air filtration
products on the market today. One of the reasons our units are so compact and
effortlessly portable is the fact that all the purification products use a
proprietary, safe, lightweight, low-voltage method of power. They do not have
the heavy transformers and potentially hazardous voltages used in other
devices. Instead, the Air Lights™ Air Purifiers have a unique and safe 12-volt
circuit ... a voltage level not that much higher than you'd find in the
average, battery operated home fire alarm
Are there filters that need to be replaced?
No, there are no expensive filters to be replaced on the air purifier.
What maintenance is required?
There is little maintenance required on Air Lights™ units. If the model
has a filter on back of the unit, it will accumulate dust and debris. Every
once in a while it can be removed and washed by hand with soap and water. If
the unit is in a smoky or dusty area, we also suggest you open the unit and
clean the UV lamp periodically with a soft cloth and alcohol. Replace the bulb
once a year.
If UV is harmful, is it safe to look at the light through the site
glass?
UV light does not normally pass through glass. If your unit has a site
glass, there is no harm to look at the site-glass from a few feet away to see
if the unit is properly operating. Do not look directly at the UV lamp.
I smell a light fresh odor from the machine. What is it?
As air passes through the UV Purification chamber, purifying plasma is
created and distributed. This purifying plasma contains small amounts of ozone
to fight contaminants and odors. The technology of the unit, however, will
never allow a space to exceed government regulated safe ozone levels in the
minimum space indicated on the label on the back of your unit. Should the
smell of ozone (a light metallic or electric odor, and sometimes described as
the smell of fresh bed sheets) becomes stronger than preferred: Lower the fan
speed or run the unit on a part-time basis Increase the room's air circulation
with a fan Move the unit to another, more central location for better air
distribution
Is ozone safe? Is this an ozone generator?
Ozone is safe at low levels to humans. It has been used to purify water
since 1893 and is also used for disinfecting, detoxification and air
deodorization as well as food preservation. Ozone occurs naturally in the
stratosphere above the earth's surface and forms a layer that protects life on
earth from the sun's harmful ultraviolet radiation. This upper atmosphere
ozone is created as a result of the breakdown of the oxygen molecule by
ultraviolet radiation and is natures way of purifying the air we breathe. Air
Lights Air Purifiers use UV light to create a purifying plasma. According to
Dr. Kimberly Crawford, M.D. "It is most important to note that
plasma-producing devices are different than just ultraviolet light air
purifiers and different than ozone generators. Typical germicidal ultraviolet
light waves are not of sufficient energy levels to create plasmas. Ozone
generators generally produce copious amounts of ozone without the other
necessary elements required for a plasma production. While there is ozone
contained in oxygen plasmas, it is not of the level produced by ozone
generators and should not be confused with such. What separates
plasma-producing machines used for air purification from ozone generators is
that the other plasma ingredients are so much more powerful in reducing
contaminants that little ozone is needed for that purpose. Plasmas are a safer
alternative." NEGATIVE OZONES Man made emissions of VOCs and Nitrogen oxides
can cause harmful ozone, the primary component of smog, to be formed. At very
high concentrations these negative ozones can be harmful to humans.
